Position overview

Location: Canada (Remote-first)  
Employment Type: Full-time, Permanent  
Eligibility: Applicants must be legally entitled to work from Canada  ​

At Nikaxu, AI is designed to support human expertise — not replace it. As an AI Scientist, you will work on research, model development, data preparation, and deployment of AI and machine learning systems. You’ll help translate real operational problems into working AI solutions used by customers.

This role is hands-on and applied: you will spend your time experimenting, training models, improving performance, and bringing AI into production systems.

What You'll Do

  • Conduct research in machine learning, deep learning, NLP, reinforcement learning, or LLMs

  • Explore and prototype new AI algorithms, models, and techniques

  • Prepare datasets: collecting, cleaning, labeling, and feature engineering

  • Design, train, evaluate, and improve AI/ML models

  • Work with engineers to deploy AI models into production environments

  • Optimize models for accuracy, speed, scalability, and reliability

  • Apply AI to real-world problems in sectors such as logistics, maritime, robotics, and infrastructure

  • Ensure AI systems are ethical, fair, transparent, and privacy-aware

  • Document experiments, models, and processes clearly

  • Share knowledge with teammates and collaborate on projects

About You

You enjoy turning research ideas into working models and seeing them used in real applications.

You Bring:

  • Master’s degree or PhD in Computer Science, AI, Machine Learning, Data Science, or related field

  • Hands-on experience training and evaluating ML models

  • Experience with Python and ML frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow, JAX, etc.)

  • Experience working with NLP, LLMs, deep learning, or reinforcement learning

  • Strong data skills (preprocessing, cleaning, feature engineering)

  • Experience deploying or contributing to AI systems in production is an asset

  • Understanding of AI ethics, bias, privacy, and regulatory considerations

  • Clear communication skills and willingness to collaborate

Experience in maritime, logistics, infrastructure, or other complex operational environments is considered a strong asset.
